1to1 Movement is proud to recognize Whole Foods Market as a headline sponsor of STACKED: A Mobile Learning Farm, for the program’s inaugural year in San Diego County.
STACKED: A Mobile Learning Farm, is the newest educational program of 1to1 Movement. STACKED repurposes a vintage double-decker bus into a bio-diesel powered mobile learning farm — with a fully functional greenhouse on the top level, and a hands-on learning lab on the bottom — to reach K-12 students and community members throughout San Diego on the benefits of nutritious, high quality food.
With the support of all four Whole Foods Market stores in San Diego County, 1to1 Movement – the nonprofit administrators of the program – expects to begin a soft launch of this first-of-its-kind initiative in April, 2016. A hard launch is expected in June, 2016, reaching K-12 students and community members throughout the county.
Despite having more family owned farms than any county in the country, an estimated 160,000 children lack regular access to nutritious food throughout San Diego County. Providing youth with experiential learning opportunities like STACKED, however, is a critical first step in generating meaningful change within this community.
Whole Foods Market is committed to practicing and advancing environmental stewardship, serving and supporting their local and global communities, and promoting the health of their stakeholders through healthy eating education. “1to1 Movement is proud to partner with Whole Foods on delivering interactive learning projects focused on food systems sustainability, nutrition, and community health. We, at 1to1, share Whole Foods’ mission on the commitment to food that is healthy for people and planet, and we are grateful for the opportunity to partner with a company that is aligned to our values,” said Co-Founder and Executive Director Jonathan Zaidman.
On April 7, 2016, Whole Foods Market locations in San Diego, La Jolla, Del Mar, and Encinitas are donating 5% of net sales to help fund STACKED. A Community Day is one way that Whole Foods Market stores are able to give back for good within the areas they serve. Additionally, 1to1 Movement and Whole Foods Market are collaborating on a variety of events throughout the year. STACKED will visit San Diego Whole Foods Market locations for hands-on learning opportunities and outreach, and Whole Foods Market will join STACKED in the community throughout the year as well.
Whole Foods Market and 1to1 Movement, along with other partners and supporters, will come together on Sunday, April 17th at San Diego’s Earthfair, from 12:30 – 1:00, for an official ribbon cutting ceremony and press conference. In what’s become a Whole Foods Market tradition at major events, representatives will break bread for STACKED, and give 1to1 Movement an ornamental check from the 5% Day on April 7th, all to celebrate the occasion.
