Woot woot, we spy with our eyes another San Diego native! This is William.

My name is William and I am a new intern for The 1:1 Movement this summer! I was born and raised here in San Diego and graduated from Mira Mesa High School in 2011. In a few months, I will be a third year at UCSB, studying sociology with a minor in mathematics. I hope that this strange combination of studying sociology and mathematics will lead me to the business or marketing field when I enter the labor force in a few years.

Some of my hobbies include playing basketball, fishing, and watching television. Although I would much rather play basketball than watch basketball, I would have to say that the Los Angeles Lakers are my favorite basketball team. Since I grew up in San Diego and go to school in Santa Barbara, it is only appropriate that I take advantage of the beautiful beaches that I am surrounded by. Instead of swimming or surfing, I have taken up fishing as a water-related hobby. A few television series that I am very interested in are Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. I am currently watching Prison Break since the other television series have already ended their seasons.

Sustainability, to me, means a brighter future. Conserving what we have today leads to more resources that will be available to us in the future. An example would be to not use any water while brushing your teeth. The net result of this minor action would be more water to use later and more money in your pocket because you are not wasteful of your water. Other minor actions such as this will lead the world to a brighter future with more resources for everyone.

While interning for the 1:1 Movement this summer, I’d like to improve my public speaking skills while learn marketing skills, such as social media. More importantly, I am hoping to make an impact on the world by reducing waste to maintain the beauty of San Diego. I am excited for what the rest of summer has in stored for me as an intern because there is much to learn working with this rapidly growing start-up sustainability organization!
